Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, confirmed that the resistance achieved 4 bright things. First, it gave strength to Lebanon. Second, it liberated Lebanon after 22 years of the 1978 occupation and 18 years of the 1982 occupation.

Sheikh Naeem Qassem pointed out that, thirdly, the resistance gave Lebanon independence and existence, such that different countries cannot act in Lebanon as if it were an arena. Sometimes they think of settling in it, at other times they think of seizing a part of it for Israel, and at other times they think of making it a den of conspiracies and sectarian strife. Sheikh Qassim’s position came during his speech at the Ashoura Council on the sixth night of the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council in Beirut.

Sheikh Qassim continued, “Fourthly, protection. Some called on us to stop the resistance after 2006. As long as there is a blue line, that is sufficient. But the question is: If we stop the resistance, will it stop Israel from attacking Lebanon and occupying some Lebanese lands?” Will you one day restore this legitimate right to 13 points? Could we have demarcated our maritime borders? Is it possible that Israel thinks that it cannot digest Lebanon because the resistance there is waiting? We need protection for Lebanon, and the resistance has provided this protection. Whoever does not want this protection, tell us how to protect Lebanon?

Sheikh Qassem pointed out, “Some say leave the matter to the Lebanese army. We say we are with you, but arm the army and provide it with military capabilities and technologies so that there is parity between it and the Israeli entity so that it can strike Israel. We must be at their service and help them without being in the first position of confrontation.” . Theories of alternative options have fallen away since the fall of Resolution 425, and it was not implemented for 22 years.”

Sheikh Qassim added, “Today we are engaged in support from the southern front for three interests: a humanitarian interest, a national interest, and a national interest. The humanitarian interest is that we stand in the face of genocide against humanity as recognized by the world, and a human being with little sense can and must stand in the face of genocide with all the capabilities he can. At the national level, we are facing an Israeli occupation of our brothers and sisters, and Palestine is the main center in which Jerusalem, honorable people, and sacrifices are made, and therefore we are concerned to make our efforts so that Palestine is our compass.”

He continued, “Nationally, it is because Lebanon is in the target zone, if not today then tomorrow, and you always hear various threats that would have become a reality had we not been strong and in the field. However, they are in vain because we are strong and in the field.” Resistance is a reaction to the occupation, and it is in order to expel it from our region, our country, and Palestine. It was never a reason for bringing in the occupation, as the occupation is what generated the resistance.”
